Carolina Panther's Thomas Davis

Written by Edgard Zuniga

Thomas DavisGot purp? Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis (drafted No. 14 in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft) has got purp and then some.

Anybody that comes across Davis’ collection of cars will likely stare unabashedly. When it comes to Davis’ pair of unique 1975 Chevrolet Caprices, these same people can be forgiven if they pause to gawk and take in everything that the purple ragtop “Rags II Riches” and the candy blue hardtop “Glasshouse” have to offer.

With the help of Mr. Scrape Customs (Sumter, South Carolina), Davis’ two American classics became undeniable showstoppers, while the rest of the fleet includes other rides that are sure to get a double-take or two…or three.

“I’m just fascinated by cars,” said Davis, who admitted that his cars are more than just possessions. “I love them. It’s always been there, that love. But being able to afford them makes a huge difference. My dad had a lot of cars coming up, and that’s where I developed that love.”

First up is his red 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab, which was customized by the crew at Dirty South Customs (Charlotte, North Carolina). They began with color-matched 24-inch D’Vinci Havoc XL wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes S/T 285/40R24 tires. The color-matched interior includes suede-wrapped inserts and the audio/video is handled by a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 head unit and a pair of 7-inch headrest monitors. Chrome accents are also found throughout the interior and exterior.

Then again, Davis could opt for his 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV that the crew at Mr. Scrape Customs equipped with gigantic, 30-inch EsinemSL Spinner wheels by MHT and Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asymmetrico 315/30R30 tires. The Escalade’s all-black interior is suede and equipped with an Alpine IVA-W205 double-DIN navigation unit, two 7-inch headrest Alpine M780 monitors, KVH satellite system, Alpine speaker components, four 12-inch Alpine XR subwoofers and two Alpine V12 amps to push the subs. Fiberglass pods covered in black leather house Memphis Car Audio MClass 6.5-inch coaxials speakers in each door.

When Davis wants to head off-road, there’s his “eccentric” 2006 Yamaha YFZ450 quad, painted to match the “Rags II Riches” Caprice. The quad’s 24-inch wheels, wrapped in Toyo Proxes 4 255/30R24 tires, look even bigger when strapped onto the quad, which has chrome accents throughout. An iPod docking station on the front handlebars is powered through a Pioneer DEH-5900 head unit that is discretely mounted under the frame of the quad, and two Memphis MClass 6.5-inch speakers in suede-wrapped fiberglass pods are mounted on each front fender. The seat has been wrapped in purple suede and the quad’s fenders have airbrushing on them, showcasing the “Rags II Riches” theme, Davis’ No. 58, Davis himself and the Mr. Scrape logo.
