Robinson Cano’s All-Star G Ride

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV is one of the most luxurious SUVs on the market, and is a choice ride in every executive or celebrity's stable. Its iconic boxy styling and utilitarian origins has been a mainstay in the Mercedes-Benz lineup for more than 35 years and has become a status symbol for those with discerning taste.

Customization of the G-Wagon is usually limited to that of the off-road style, but in recent years tuners have taken a more aggressive approach to give it a sportier look. MC Customs is one such tuner that was commissioned by veteran MLB player Robinson Cano to create a G-Wagon worthy enough to add to his already stacked collection.

“MC Customs always builds my cars the way I want and they always make them look different from every other vehicle on the road,” Cano says about the shop. The Seattle Mariners’ second baseman has a long history with MC Customs and trusts them with all of his rides (10 rides and counting) so when he decided on his G-Wagen, he knew he needed to add his own flair to the ride.

“I think Cano is probably the player that is most up-to-date with his cars,” owner Jhulio Tadeo describes. “The G-Wagon is probably the most sought after SUV on the market, so Cano definitely needed to have one as part of his fleet since he already owns two other popular luxury SUVs – an Escalade and Range Rover Supercharged.”

Cano wanted to use it for when he was back home in the Dominican Republic, so Tadeo and the crew at MC Customs only had three weeks to complete the ride. With instructions to build a vehicle that would “just turn heads,” Tadeo decided on sleek mods that would complement the G-Wagons already refined looks. To give it an aggressive demeanor, the G-Wagon was given a sportier stance via lowering links and went with a HAMANN Spyridon full widebody kit, complete with a carbon fiber hood and roof spoiler in black to offset the white exterior.

To further announce its presence, a HAMANN under car lighting system and illuminated front grill star help make it stand out at night, especially since it can get extremely dark in the Dominican Republic. To boost is already impressive power, a HAMANN full exhaust system was also installed. To complete the set up, a set of 22” Vellano VM34 Duoblock custom finished wheels combined with 305/40R22 Toyo Proxes S/T II tires set off its exterior mods. Inside is a full JL Audio sound package with two 15” subs and all-marine audio equipment to maximize sound externally.

But what really makes this G-Wagon unique is the special plaque mounted on the rear hatch of the SUV that commemorates one of Cano’s greatest achievements in baseball. “In 2015, Cano broke the record for the most consecutive seasons with 30+ doubles since the start of his career,” Tadeo explains. “All others on this list are in the Hall of Fame, so this already shows how important that was for him. The plaque was placed in the SUV and serves as a memoir of this moment and so the entire build was dedicated to that one great achievement.”
