Question: What do a Dodge Charger R/T with 24-inch Toyo tires, a one-time Southern preacher and the Beverly Hills Hotel have in common?
Answer: The interest of Curtis Jackson on a sunny California day during a DUB Magazine photo shoot. Jackson (better known as the rapper 50 Cent) is among the most provocative cultural icons making headlines this side of the millennium. Whatever 50 touches seems to lead to success. He came out of the gate with heavy endorsement, and it seems apparent that his ironclad formula for success is indeed bulletproof.
It’s no surprise to see 50 on SoCal streets. The Southside Queens native calls a plush Connecticut pad home, but he spends a good chunk of his time in the Los Angeles area, which is the headquarters of Dr. Dre and Interscope Records.
Taking time out of his busy schedule, 50 shows up with the first DUB Edition Dodge Charger R/T fitted with 24x10-inch TIS 10 wheels and revolutionary Toyo Proxes 4 255/30R24 tires. Before Toyo unveiled the new Proxes 4 24-inch tires at last year’s SEMA Show, it was unheard of for a passenger car to be rolling safely on 24s. The Proxes 4 tires, with their high-image sidewall design and aggressive unidirectional tread design, offer more than looks. Through the application of “Generation S” (a silica-reinforced, high-grip tread compound, paired shoulder blocks that increase cornering, and that distinctive tread design, Proxes 4 tires offer all-season traction and impressive steering response.
When the Dodge Charger reincarnated at the 2005 North American International Auto Show, 50 famously declared that he wanted to be among the first to cop the R/T. When he gravitates toward something, the ball is set in motion. In addition to the hot new set of kicks and smoked taillights, his DUB Edition Dodge Charger R/T was equipped with an Eibach Pro-Kit suspension for greater stability and low ground stance. This, plus minor modifications were necessary to allow the larger tires to fit. Throw in a Borla cat-back exhaust system and a DUB Air intake, and you can almost hear the Charger growling. Inside, the Charger R/T features a suede headliner with interior details and accents in grey. On the tech side, a Kenwood 815 head unit with an LCD touch screen provides high-quality sound, while feeding video to two 7-inch Eigervision EVP-70H headrest LCD units and a large 15-inch Eigervision EVP-1541FC flip down LCD screen.
It seems that 50 can’t lose. He’s come a long way from the grimy streets of New York Avenue as a struggling rapper endorsed by Eminem. But his success is more than a lucky break. One look at his piercing, steely eyes and staunch grimace speak volumes about the determination it took to get him to the top.
