“I was riding around in my ’hood, and I was thinking about the Superman song and singing it in my head, and the lyrics for the song just came to me,” he recalls, talking real fast as an excited teen does. “I then took No. 1 songs on Billboard charts and renamed my song with theirs and placed it on the Internet. So, when people typed in names like 50 Cent and Jay-Z, they downloaded my song instead of the one they really wanted.” After people figured out who Soulja Boy Tell’em was, that’s when he decided to put the YouTube video up, which now has more than 12 million views (with numbers growing daily).
The rest is history, as Soulja Boy Tell’em is compared to the likes of such hip-hop heavy-hitters like Lil’ Jon and Big Boi. However, he never intended to become such a huge success; he was really just having fun. But nonetheless, the fans responded, and when they call, you better answer back. He set up his website (www.souljaboytellem.com) to help push his name, and with the help of producer Mr. Collipark, Soulja Boy Tell’em debuted his album, Souljaboytellem.com (Interscope Records, 2007) for fans, who craved more from the musical sensation.
