The all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia SUV is bound to make an impression in the segment given it features plenty of amenities and mods that will make the full-size SUV desirable for many. What’s impressive is the three-rows it offers and the luxurious comforts inside along with state-of-the-at technology and noteworthy performance numbers from its new hybrid powertrain. Projected to be available come the summer of 2022, the new SUV will be a mega player for those looking for a spacious and luxurious vehicle.

A Powerful SUV

As the 3rd gen, the 2023 Sequoia will be powered by a twin-turbo V6 hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain that was first unveiled on the Tundra. What’s unique about the i-FORCE MAX is that motor generator inside the bell housing between the twin turbo engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. This in turn provides max performance and efficiency. It’ll be offered in both 2WD and 4WD in different grades. There’s also an independent front suspension that has a new rack-mounted electronic power steering system for improved performance.

Lots More Room

Given it has three rows, the SUV offers a range of different configurations for both cargo and passengers (which will depend on the grade). Third-row passengers will find spacious room and powerful folding for extra cargo thanks to the exclusive Sliding Third Row with Adjustable Cargo Shelf System.

Various Grade Options

The different grades offered include: the SR5 that offers a strong foundation of power, technology and efficiency; the Limited that adds to the SR5 with a clear emphasis on added convenience; Platinum that adds an emphasis on comfort and premium features; and the Capstone which gives the SUV an upscale appearance and feel. The TRD Off-Road packages is available for both SF5 and Limited 4×4 models, as it enhances off-road capabilities (over the TRD Sport upgrade).

New Features

As a full-size SUV, the Sequoia offers a 9,000-pound max towing capacity, which is about a 22% increase over the previous generation model. And towing becomes easier thanks to new technology with the Tow Tech Package that’s available on all grades. Features include Trailer Backup Guide and Straight Path Assist for easier towing (which comes standard on the TRD Pro and Capstone grades. Another all-new feature for the latest Sequoia is Drive Mode Select, which offers different driving modes, depending on driver preference. Standard settings include Eco, Normal and Sport.

And the view around the SUV is improved thanks to its numerous cameras that display multiple exterior angles that can be viewed from the 14” touchscreen or the available digital display rearview mirror.

Toyota Safety Sense

Standard on all grades is Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which is an active safety system that includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection that features many enhancements over the previous generation, including not only detecting a vehicle ahead, but also any pedestrians in low light. It’ll also be equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is made to notify the driver via audible and visual alerts and slight steering force when it senses the SUV leaving the line without turning on the turn signal.
